Finest Address in Buenos Aires - Avenida de Mayo

Avenida de Mayo (pronounced 'mar-sho'),is Argentina's Royal Avenue and leads from the Pink Palace to the architecturally outstanding Congresso buildings, in fact the whole avenue is a cacophony of architectural delights of the most highly noted buildings in all of Buenos Aires.

A fine example is Palacio Barolo, originally built as a tribute by the architect to the famous Dante of Dante's divine Comedy (he was hoping Dante's family would agree to reinterr his body in the foundations of it, they declined the invitation), you can tour through the building and experience his vision of hell, purgatory and finally, in heaven you can enjoy the grand vista of the city from the farola or lighthouse. The lighthouse has a sister building in Montevideo which also has an impressive aspect as the surrounding buildings don't obscure it. Stories of its first use as a lighthouse were not to warn ships entering the port, but to give blow by blow accounts of an important boxing match via morse code.
